Pancratium maritimum (Sand lily) belongs to the same family of Amaryllidaceae (Narcissus). This plant grows in coastal sand dunes and coastal rocks within the Mediterranean, Aegean and the southern coast of the Black Sea.
Onions are 20-30 cm deep from the soil surface. Thus these plants do not remain waterless during summer. It blooms ın August and September. Flower stalk can reach up to 30 – 40 cm. These flowers are white-cream coloured with 6 petal and it gives out a pleasant fragrant. The fragrant of this flower can be smelled durıng evening hours.
These plants are in danger of extinction due to human settlement. Due to this, coast of Pamucak (natural habitat of the plant) as well as this area is surrounded by fence for protection.
